The only user upgrade on the 27" iMac is RAM.
Anything else requires special tools and expertise and doing it yourself

And the answer to my question is yes.

Be aware, that to replace a drive, a special kit is needed to allow
thermal sensors to work, otherwise fans go wild.
Also, if you are looking for graphics upgrades, only special made for
iMac (and your particular model) are your only choice and are very
expensive, if available.
In addition, the i5 is soldered to the logic board so it can't be changed.
Can the 3.2Ghz i5 5k iMac be upgraded.
